Who:

Communities In Schools of the Charleston Area is a nonprofit organization that champions all youth to sty in school by connecting the best community resources with the needs of students, their families and schools.

In partnership with the Charleston County School District since 1989, CIS has been employing strategies proven effective for keeping children in school.  A new collaboration between the Berkeley County School District and CIS began in late 2006, connecting hundreds of additional Lowcountry children with resources to keep them in school.   CIS strategies for dropout prevention include:

Mentoring Academic Enhancement
Tutoring Family Cohesiveness Activities
Life Skills Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention
After School Experiences Service Learning Projects
Alternative Schooling Parent Education

Communities In Schools has been twice recognized by Worth Magazine as one of the 100 charities "that are essential for creating a caring society."

What:

The Chocolate Affair is a gala function offering gourmet catering and chocolate desserts from Charleston's finest restaurants and speciality shops.   The evening also features more than 200 auction items for every budget.  Items include jewelry, fantasy vacations, furniture, artwork, dinner packages, gifts and services.

When:

The Chocolate Affair is scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 7:00pm.

Where:

This annual event is hosted at the Citadel Holliday Alumni Center on Hagood Avenue just off The Citadel Campus across from Bulldog Stadium.
